I have two sons, one is dog and the other is human :) They are 9 and 30 years old.

How old Maggy is ?

Maggy is about 9 years old. I do not know exactly because she comes originally from Spain and is a discarded hunting dog. so no one knows how old she is and what life she led. But from her behaviour and the bad condition in the beginning she must have been with a Spanish hunter and has been beaten up a lot. Now she is developping problems with the hips - a furter indicator that she is older.

Galina, I think I will use the thiner wick. The soil is constantly moist. I could not buy vermiculite yet, so I will try to substitue with perlite. It so much easier to get it.

Dilara, it is a very nice variety. Do you have the list of violets that you get in that time when you get this one also?

My violets starting to form flower buds.

I sprayed some fungicide chemicals onto them to prevent them from mold and such things, so the leaves looks a bit dirty, but by time it will disappear from the leaves.

Super Laci, I love them especially variegated one. If an african violet has variegated leaves, flowers are bonus for me. I love them with or without flowers.

I also like variegated leaves, but those violets which has this leaf type are growing more slower and requires a bit more light. So they are complicated to grow for me. In winter the light is not enough for them. I feel lucky that this LE-Demo is well grown and has some flower buds also :-)

Thank yo Dilara :) RS-Tainstvennyi Sad is only a plantlet yet. I put down the leaf in October.
The only secret is the enough source of light. If they get sufficient amount of light, they will bloom. My favourite for now is Deer Path. It has lovely flowers.

Laci,

At the beginnig, I mean when you put down the leaf, are they on window sill ? Are you using any transparent box or something to give greenhouse effect? And the last question , which side do you place them?

I'm applying well known suggestions. At the beginnig, I'm putting the cuttings in a transparent box at window sill . They are at east side during the winter and not getting sun light directly and still they are very very small. Maybe I should learn and apply artifical light :)

Last year I did put down leaves in early summer and continued until October. The ones I planted earlier were faster growing and I did not loose any of them. But the leaves I started with in September/October were slow in growing and I also lost lots of them (due to sudden cold weather and they were weak because of little light and not enough experience for watering). For East or West window sill - no difference in my apartment. The important factor was lighting. Some time ago I put up artificial lighting for some shelves and I can already see the effects - some little plantlets had blemished leaves (too little light) and the new ones now growing under the artificial light are green and healthy looking.

I have a west facing window. There is a sheer curtain in front of the violets, so they cannot get too much direct light in summer. But in winter the light is not enough for them, they get weak. If I put them on the windowsill they doing well, but now I had to replace them from the windowsill.

Now I'm trying to use artificial lights, I've just started it, so I need some time to make conclusion :-)

Today was a very hard day for me. I had a bicycle trip, 48 km, in 5 hours. I have lost 2 kilos from my weight, hurrrrrraaay :-)
