Help me identify these russian/ukranian african violets

Postby cooks » December 15th, 2016, 11:35 pm

Hi, I would appreciate some help identifying these violets. I know they are russian/ukranian, but not sure if I have the right blooms. Also, if anyone can share the official description for these plants, because I couldnt find them anywhere. Thanks!

1) Fantasy Fringe - Eyerdome (this one not a russian)

2) Rs Morski Przboj - Repkina?

Hello cooks

welcome to our forum (would be nice if you could give us a short introduction).

for 1.: here is the description of Fantasy Fringe:
Fantasy Fringe (7281) 02/08/1990 (H. Eyerdom) Double bright pink ruffled/blue fantasy. Light green, wavy. Standard

2. It should be Repkina - the RS stands for Repkina Svetlana. The variety looks vaguely familiar.

3. This should be RS-Romantika (S. Repkina).

4. No idea except that RS stands for the hybridizer Repkina. The transcriptions of the names look a bit weird to me - Looks to me like a Polish version of the Russian name.

I would say that no.2 is RS-Gertsoginea (S. Repkina) - РС-Герцогиня and no.3 is RS-Brusnichnyi Sirop (S. Repkina) - РС-Брусничный Сироп. The leaves of the violet in picture no.4 remind me of a violet I used to have: RS Rosinka (РС-Росинка). You can google for more pictures using the Russian spelling of the names I gave you and check if it's correct.
Good luck! great:

No. 3: the name given is RS-Romantyczndsc - and Romantyczndsc (Polish) translates to Romance ( - if you go from the given name in the first post). Brusnichnyi Sirop does not have any resemblence to Romantiyczndsc looking at it from the "language" angle. And the description of RS-Romantika sort of fits:
RS-Romantika (S. Repkina) Very large semidouble-double wavy white flowers, with dark-purple thumbprints and with greenish fringe on the edge of the petals. Profuse flowering, prize dark green foliage.

On the other hand I agree: it looks somewhat like Brusnichnyi Sirop.

No. 2: the name mentioned does not resemble at all to RS-Gertsoginea - from a "language" point of view, no fit.

Thank you so much for your replies. I will do some more research and try to get a consensus on these varieties, or let them go through one more bloom cycle and then see.

About myself, I am a hobby grower and have been growing violets for the past 10 years, starting out with one violet for many years and then crazily expanding. Down the line, I am interested in commercial hybridization and creating new varieties...lets see...I do realize thats quite a time commitment.

thanks!
