Hand Picked (V. Frathel) - vintage

Postby Valkiria » January 9th, 2012, 12:31 pm

Hand Picked (1952) 07/05/1969 (V. Frathel) Double peach/wine edge. Variegated, round. Large

An old variety, vintage. Since I have it, it was always small, not large. :)

All the varieties with mosaic variegation are very slow growing, and never reaches standard.
The most easily growing in my hands is Genetic Blush, till now.

Hi Basti, what is your Impression - is Hand Picked more on the large side? Valkiria mentioned did not turn out large.

I'm glad Gabi asked first. great:
Basti, it would be great if you also shared your opinion about varieties or about your particular plants. Not just post pictures. The internet is loaded with pictures of violets. We would all like to hear the opinion of a person who actually has the variety.
I usually try to say something about the variety, it may be something good or bad about the variety. I do this not because I want to pose as the know-it-all person. It's because that's the idea of a forum (a meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged). I hope my comment doesn't offend you.

Gabi asks about the size. I've got another issue. I don't see the peach in it. I would rather say a fuchsia edge.

my plant is not a big strain rather a small standard, peach I do not see in the variety also rather delicately with a darker edge as Olivia Olivia wrote. All in all, a recommended variety with sevr beautiful mosaic foliage

Registered in 1969... well, maybe it was considered as being large at the time. When I look at the present-day photos of the variety, I don't see it as being large.
A 1989 variety, Pacific Pearl, was wrongly registered as mini - that's what people on Facebook say.
I don't know what to say about the peach colour. I wonder if it lost that shade in time. conf:
On the other hand, a 1986 variety, Ramblin' Lace is registered as being pink but I would call it peach.
