Introduction

Postby alex_thomas » November 3rd, 2019, 3:43 pm

Hi! my name is Alex and I've had a long-time passion for African violets. I used to have a collection that died (entirely) of unknown reasons. I have moved to the UK and now I am growing more AVs! I'm hoping to learn a lot as well as possible learning to hybridise!

Hi Alex,

welcome to the forum. Hope you enjoy growing your African violets. I have never hybridised any but Basti has some experience.

Happy growing,
Gabi

Hello everyone !

My name is Rick ( Collinwood ) and I am also a new member . I have a passion for growing African Violets . I became interested in violets when I was a kid back in the mid 1960`s . For those that remember that decade , it was the height of the violet craze . Just about every household had at least a violet or two growing on a window sill above the kitchen sink. Many men and women converted entire living spaces into grow rooms . Most of my violet collection years ago came from Buell`s Violets in Connecticut , and purchased at the local Woolworths . I sure miss Buell`s . About 30 years ago , I had to sell off my violet collection due to work and family situations , but now at the age of 67 , I am ready to retire and to start up my collection again . I hope members of this site will be able to help in locating some of those old vintage violets .
