I tried my hand at pollinating a few streps in June. I now have (2) pods that are maturing. How long do strep pods usually take to mature? Do they share the same maturity characteristics with AVs?
I do not know much about strep seedpods - but I have a plant with a self-pollinated seed-pod It's been sitting there on the plant for many weeks now ... and finally it starts to turn dry. I do not remember where I've read it but it takes several months for seedpod to get ripe. It looks like we will need some good portion of patience
I have found some more info on seed pods in an article of Dale Martens who is a well-known hybridizer. She writes that it takes 8 to 12 weeks before the seed pod will turn brown and begin to untwist. Here is a recent photo of my seed pod - after all these weeks it is brown but not yet untwisting.
My seedpod is now completely dry but it is not yet untwisting. It is more than 10 weeks now and I am getting impatient. It seems like nothing happens there and I wonder if I should just take it off and open the seedpod
Paul, how did it go with your pollinated strep? Any results?
I put the dry seed pods somewhere in a drawer and forgot about them. Yesterday I had a look and found tiny seeds on the bottom of the drawer. The seed pods had slowly opened a bit at the sides and lost seeds. Time to harvest the seeds
Just one advice: don't burst out laughing or sneezing or your seeds are "gone with the wind"
